Marcel L'Enfant's Norman roots

Among the painter's papers we found was a typewritten text describing him. It was obviously written by a close friend or a relative, and it revealed that Marcel L'Enfant was of Norman origins. After some research, we were able to go back to his great-grand-father, Philippe Charles L'Enfant, who was born and died in Hudimesnil.

Hudimesnil is a small town located in the department of Manche, in Normandy. Its origins go back to the 11th century. The surname "L'Enfant" is very common there, and we even had the surprise of discovering an eponymous village : L'Enfant Village, locality of Hudimesnil. Above is a present-day map of Hudimesnil with the position of L'Enfant Village.
